Training methods

The workshop consists of eight short sessions. All sessions involve theoretical introduction and practical exercises, for example simulations of business presentations and other types of speeches in front of camera and discussing the outcome in group. During the discussions the participants will be given feedback from the audience on their strong and weak points as speakers and presenters.

Introduction to public speaking

  • Speaking in front of the public – basic hints and tips.

Types of speeches

  • Impromptu speeches.

  • Prepared occasional speeches (e.g. during meetings).

  • Informative presentation (objective and subjective).

  • Persuasive presentation and motivational speaking.

Features of the best speakers

  • Presenter’s style: how to be both competent and charismatic?

  • Speaker’s body language: why and how does it affect the way people perceive the person?

  • Presenter’s dress and props as means of building authority.

  • Speaker as an expert: how to convince your business partner that you are competent in spite of the lack of language skills.

  • Motivational speaking: how to be perceived as a charismatic leader?

The language of a speech or presentation

  • Voice emission, diction and intonation in speaking in public.

  • Useful phrases and formulas for presentations.

  • Keys to be an expert: checking and knowing the essential vocabulary.

  • Argumentation: how to articulate your opinions in front of the public?

  • Handling specific language problems during presentations.

Overcoming stage fright, stress and lack of confidence

  • Main stress factors of speaking in public: types and risks.

Planning and practicing the speech

  • Different structures depending on the form of a presentation – how to plan them.
